DESCRIPTION:\nSuppose S in [N]^d is a big set of integer points which is v
ery badly\ndistributed in residue classes for many primes. A remarkable co
njecture of\nHelfgott and Venkatesh asserts that the only way in which thi
s can happen\nis if the set S is strongly algebraic\, in a precise sense.
In this talk we\nwill be concerned with this question and how to obtain a
positive answer\nwhenever the dimension d is greater than one.
