DESCRIPTION: Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) are currently all the\nra
ge\, and are now a popular method of distance learning for Computer\nScien
ce. In this talk we explore whether some of the approaches\ndeployed in re
cent MOOCs can be used to improve teaching quality in a\ntraditional\nuniv
ersity setting. Last term at the Computer Laboratory we ran an\nexperiment
replacing the lectures in one of our undergraduate courses\nwith online v
ideos. We investigated how this form of delivery might work\nfor Cambridge
undergraduates in tandem with the supervision system\, and\nto try to pro
mote direct engagement between supervisors and lecturers.\nIn this talk we
will describe the recording process we followed and the\nplatform we buil
t for the delivery of videos and embedded interactive\nquestions for stude
nts. We will present the data we collected from\ninterviews with undergrad
uates\, surveys of supervisors and students\, and\nviewing statistics from
the videos themselves. We will expand on a\nnumber of possible scenarios
for how this might evolve in future.\n\n
