DESCRIPTION:The first part of the talk will be about the context in which 
 Pinocchio was written\, while the second part will compare Collodi's maste
 rpiece with fairy tales of the Western tradition and will discuss adaptati
 ons of Pinocchio in the English-speaking world. \n\nLaura Tosi is Associat
 e Professor of English Literature at the University Ca’ Foscari of Venic
 e. Her research spans the areas of Early Modern Drama and Children’s Lit
 erature.  She has recently edited\, with S. Bassi\, the volume Visions of 
 Venice in Shakespeare (Ashgate\, 2011)\, and\, with A. Petrina\, Represent
 ations of Elizabeth in Early Modern Culture (Palgrave Macmillan\, 2011). S
 he has  written a book on the history of the literary fairy tale in Englan
 d (2007) and has edited\, with A. Petrina\, a history of British Children
 ’s Literature\, Dall’ABC a Harry Potter (2011).\n
