DESCRIPTION:Crossrail Limited and Cambridge University are undertaking a c
 ollaborative research programme\, supported by the Knowledge Transfer Part
 nership\, to improve the understanding of ground movement mechanisms aroun
 d deep excavations and the stresses induced in shaft linings. The collabor
 ative research provides a review of existing geotechnical instrumentation 
 and explores the application of innovative sensing technology\, such optic
 al fibre and wireless mesh sensors\, at several Crossrail sites: Limmo Pen
 insula shaft\, Stepney Green step-plate junction\, Pudding Mill Lane porta
 l\, Paddington Station main box and Liverpool Street sprayed-concrete line
