so hard? - Dr Philip Stier (University of Oxford)

DESCRIPTION:Atmospheric aerosols play an important role in the global clim
ate system through modifications of the global and regional radiation budg
ets. In particular the uncertainties associated with aerosol-cloud interac
tions and the resulting radiative effects remains persistently large – w
hy? \n\nIn this talk\, I will highlight the difficulties to assess aerosol
-cloud interactions from space-born remote sensing and discuss the state o
f the art of the representation of aerosol-cloud interactions in global ch
emistry aerosol climate models\, such as HadGEM-UKCA\, from the (slightly)
better constrained stratiform clouds to new frontiers: the investigation
of aerosol effects on convective clouds.
