DESCRIPTION:Wave diffraction on periodic media is ubiquitous in optics. In
  particular\,\nfiber Bragg gratings\, i.e gratings imprinted directly in a
fiber core are\nessential components widely used for example in telecommu
nication devices\nand integrated fiber laser. In close analogy with these
optical devices\, we\nstudy the scattering of a guided matter wavepacket o
n a finite size lattice.\nFurthermore\, in atom optics\, it is easily poss
ible to vary in time the depth\nof the periodic potential which opens new
possibilities. By switching on\nadiabatically the optical lattice on a mov
ing wavepacket\, we realize a\nBragg cavity for matter waves. Alternativel
y\, the scattering on a modulated\nlattice enables one to engineer finely
the momentum distribution using only\nexternal degrees of freedom.\n\n
