SUMMARY:Intelligent Nanomaterials - Will It Answer Energy Problems?? And W
hat Policies Will Make Them Attractive For Commercialisation. - By Dr. Sat
 heesh Krishnamurthy\, Open University

DESCRIPTION:Globally\, the growth rate of the human population is increasi
ng\; creating a huge demand for energy to fulfill its requirements for veh
icles\, computers\, air conditioning etc and this is leading to global war
ming. Therefore\, CO2-free energy is an emergent issue. The novel charac
teristics of nanomaterials\, coupled with manipulation at atomic and molec
ular levels can contribute to the development of devices and technologies
associated with carbon-free or low carbon energy applications. \n\nIn this
presentation\, technological developments underpinning the energy efficie
ncy\, storage and commercialisation of nanomaterials with particular refer
ence to solar photovoltaic\, hydrogen storage and fuel cells will be discu
ssed. The presentation will highlight current and long-term challenges as
sociated with research and industrial application on intelligent nanomater
ials and systems for light-harvesting materials\, which have potential dir
 ect benefits to society.\n
