DESCRIPTION:Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are key components of terre
strial ecosystems. I will present some recent data on changes in AMF abund
ances and distributions in response to long term organic and inorganic fer
tilisation in a lowland tropical forest in Panama. In addition\, I will di
scuss some preliminary findings that indicate changes in the distribution
 of common non-photosynthetic parasitic plants\, termed mycoheterotrophs\,
which depend on AMF for carbohydrate and mineral nutrition.
