DESCRIPTION:From around 30 million years ago a more efficient version of p
hotosynthesis known as the C4 pathway evolved in the sub-tropics and tropi
cs. Due to its phenotypic complexity C4 photosynthesis is considered one o
f the most remarkable examples of convergent evolution as it is found in m
ultiple lineages in both the monocotyledons and dicotyledons. Using Cleome
gynandra\, the closest C4 species to Arabidopsis\, we have developed a sp
atiotemporal transcriptome dataset. Patterns of C4 genes expression have b
een isolated during leaf development and within cells. Compared with dista
nt C4 lineages\, those data will inform gene regulatory networks participa
ting in initiation and maintenance of this particular form of photosynthes
 is.
