ifference? - Ben Tapley\, Zoological Society of London

DESCRIPTION:More than one third of amphibian species are threatened with e
xtinction. Ex situ captive breeding programmes have been set up for a numb
er of amphibian species with mixed success and considerable financial inve
stment. It is time that we step back and evaluate the roles of the modern
zoo in such programmes and decide whether or not ex situ conservation bree
ding programmes are really worth the risk and investment.
