DESCRIPTION:The basis of guidelines for daylight in buildings in most deve
loped countries is the half-century-old daylight factor. This measure cons
iders relative illumination under a single overcast sky. Thus it is insens
itive to prevailing climate and orientation of the building. Daylighting o
f buildings has undergone a renaissance with the emergence of climate-base
d modelling techniques and the discovery of the importance of the wider he
alth and well-being benefits of daylight. This presentation will: describe
these developments\; critique the current recommendations\; and\, suggest
  a way forward.
