DESCRIPTION:The coherent excitation\, control and detection of mesoscopic
ensembles of Rydberg atoms are key requisites for proposed quantum devices
such as integratable gates and single-photon sources [1]. While to date m
ost experimental progress has been limited to ultracold atoms\, our result
s demonstrate that microcells at room temperature are robust and promising
candidates for investigating strongly interacting Rydberg gases\, and for
applications where scalability plays a role. We present our latest result
s towards atom-based quantum devices at room temperature and discuss futur
e directions [2\,3].\nReferences:\n[1] M. Saffman et al.\, Rev. Mod. Phys.
