DESCRIPTION:Within the last twenty years Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
has become established as a major 3D imaging tool in hospitals. Each exami
nation is essentially a complicated Physics experiment involving careful m
anipulation of the spins of the protons in hydrogen atoms of the subject.
The technique is excellent for anatomical imaging but also has many other
applications which are still being discovered by physicists working in the
field. I will discuss the basic physics and applications\, and also a cur
rent research project which involves combining MRI with simultaneous posit
ron emission (PET) imaging.\n\nThis talk is free for members\, £2 for non
 -members.
