DESCRIPTION:One of the most ambitious and largest scientific experiments e
ver\, the Lage Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva tries to address th
e most fundamental questions of physics and the cosmos. Thus it addresses
the questions posed in Paul Gauguin's famous painting "What are we? Where
do we come from? Where are we going? This talk will review the prospects f
or finding the answers. In particular\, the new particle discovered recent
ly at the LHC may be the Higgs boson that provides the masses of elementar
y particles\, making possible the existence of atoms and the weakness of r
 adioactivity.\n\nThis talk is free for members\, £2 for non-members.
