DESCRIPTION:In the first part of the talk\, I will introduce the classical
  theory of Jacobians. In particular\, I will stress the relations between 
 the singularities of the Theta divisor and the projective geometry of the 
 curve. In the second part\, I will focus on the Schottky problem and on mo
 dular forms. I will discuss modular forms arising from lattices: these mig
 ht provide upper bound on the slope of the moduli space of curves.
