DESCRIPTION:One of the outstanding problems facing applied holography is t
he development of a complete understanding of how the traditional Fermi su
rfaces of condensed matter physics are realized in the bulk. Whilst the ge
neral problem is very hard\, in this talk I shall describe a regime in whi
ch progress can be made. In the presence of a strong magnetic field the dy
namics of fermions undergoes a dimensional reduction and we are able to us
e Coleman's classic technique of bosonization. This allows us to obtain a
description of the Landau level physics of the boundary theory in terms of
a `star' of gravitating sine-Gordon kinks in the bulk.
