DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, I will present an introduction to the method of
  full waveform inversion as typically used within the oil industry to prod
 uce large scale images of the earth’s subsurface.  \n\nI will begin by g
 iving a brief review of the various technologies commonly used in seismic 
 exploration and then move on to discuss some of the mathematical technique
 s used in seismic imaging. In particular\, the equations of linear elastod
 ynamics\, and the associated inverse problem. I will also include a few in
 sights into life in Schlumberger and Schlumberger Gould Research.   \n\nAl
 l welcome.
