DESCRIPTION:This week's Stokes Society talk is actually four talks rolled
into one\, with members of Pembroke GP presenting their research and inter
ests in science in what is going to be an exciting evening!\n\nTalks will
be 10-15 minutes long\, with a few minutes following for questions. Our sp
eakers are as follows:\n\nMaya Hanspal: Pigments of My Imagination\nIntrod
ucing people to the weird and wonderful world of synaesthesia from an insi
der's point of view.\n\nRichard Heywood: Will we ever cure cancer?\nDespit
e huge amounts of research into new treatments for cancer\, it is still on
e of the biggest killers worldwide. This talk will look at the challenges
that face researchers\, and whether we will be able to overcome these now
and in the future.\n\nMark Nelson: The Next Century of Energy\nCovering th
e biggest families of energy technologies\, their level of potential utili
zation\, and the economic\, social\, and technology policies required to p
ower our world with these sources.\n\nHighlights including: cutting-edge i
nformation about fusion energy\, the dark side of renewables\, and the Gre
at Number Problem that basically guarantees that we won't fight climate ch
ange in any meaningful fashion.\n\nKrishnaa Mahbubani: Synthetic Cell Tran
sduction Agents (aka Applications of Phospholipid Membrane Interactions)\n
For my current research\, I am attempting to address the interaction with
phospholipid membranes from a theoretical view point in order to identify
the features used by synthetic transduction agents and how this extends in
 to polymer-cell interactions. \n\nIncluding tea\, coffee\, wine and nibble
s\, we hope to see you all there!
