DESCRIPTION:Cognitive science is the current frontier issue between scienc
e and religion. So-called “New Atheists” rely heavily on findings from
the Cognitive Science of Religion (CSR) in their campaign to disabuse the
world of religion. How compelling are these arguments from Cognitive Scie
nce? And if they are not so convincing\, are there still important things
to learn about religion from cognitive science? This talk will briefly rev
iew the major claims about religious belief proffered by cognitive scienti
sts and then evaluate\, in terms of both science and philosophy\, this res
earch and the arguments based on it that some use to attempt to undermine
 religious belief.
