DESCRIPTION:Thiamine is required for the synthesis of thiamine pyrophospha
te (TPP)\, an\nessential cofactor for many central respiratory pathways. I
n most organisms\nthat synthesise thiamine\, the level of intracellular th
iamine is highly\nregulated at the level of gene expression\, mostly by TP
P riboswitches. They\nare sequences in the mRNA to which TPP binds directl
y\, thereby influencing\nexpression of the transcript. Genetic analysis of
riboswitches is well\nstudied in prokaryotes\, but limited in eukaryotes.
The aim of my PhD project\nis to characterize TPP riboswitches in Chlamyd
monas reinhardtii at a\ndetailed molecular level in order to apply as a po
 werful tool for synthetic\nbiology.
