  will give a series of three public lectures and a concluding symposium as
  Humanitas Visiting Professor in Statecraft and Diplomacy 2013.\n\nAbstrac
 t\n\nIs achieving a world without nuclear weapons not just an impossible a
 spiration\, but a hopelessly wrong-headed one?  Have they been a stabiliz
 ing deterrent\, or have the risks associated with their retention always o
 utweighed any such utility? Is there a credible path to minimization and u
 ltimately zero\, or is disarmament always going to be a pipe dream? Gareth
  Evans will draw in this lecture on his experience in and out of governmen
 t wrestling with these issues\, in particular as co-chair of the Internati
 onal Commission on Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (2009).\nFull
