DESCRIPTION:The relationship between science and policy is complex and has
sometimes proved to be controversial. Science can be extremely informativ
e in the policy development process and ministers are often keen to claim
that their policies are evidence-based. However\, political ideology and s
ocial values also have a bearing on policy and this can be a source of con
tention. This tension between scientific and political values is particula
rly salient in discussions surrounding UK policies on substance use (for b
oth legal and illegal substances). In this lecture David Nutt (Professor o
f Psychopharmacology at Imperial)\, Mark Stokes (Director of the Attention
Group at Oxford Centre for Human Brain Activity)\, Barbara Sahakian ( Pro
fessor of Clinical Neuropsychology at the Department of Psychiatry\, Cambr
idge) as well as other experts will discuss political\, social and scienti
fic perspectives on this issue.\n\nPLEASE REGISTER ONLINE:\nhttp://goo.gl/
