DESCRIPTION:In the talk\, I will present some recent research results in o
 ur group. It splits up into two rather unrelated parts. In the first part\
 , I will talk about computer simulations and elastic theories for lipid me
 mbranes\, which have given insight into possible origins of lipid rafts. I
 n the second part\, I will give a very brief tutorial on the self-consiste
 nt field theory of inhomogeneous polymer systems (I was asked to do so)\, 
 and present a new approach to studying copolymer networks within this fram
 ework.
