DESCRIPTION:The standard reply\, apparently is: from the great composers o
r\, at least\, from conscious working out by mortals here on this earth -
and a wonderful gift of 'talent' and 'genius' it is too. This paper takes
a contrary and less conventional view (which - warning - may shock some) a
nd looks instead at dreams\, near-death experience and telepathy - 'inspir
ation' in its original sense. It builds both on extensive reading about mu
sic and on the speaker's own personal experience - a 'case study' in the m
odern terminology - and\, like as a near-lifelong anthropologist in Africa
\, Fiji and Britain\, on (very) participative observation.
