DESCRIPTION:As with any creative process\, conducting a study is often a m
ixture of\nstages of excitement and frustration. Although gathering a rich
set of\nresearch data brings forth multiple possibilities\, it often lead
s the\nresearcher to wonder how to distance oneself from self-evident\npre
sumptions in order to reach an accurate understanding of the\nphenomenon u
nder study – whilst acknowledging that the\nresearcher’s understanding
is always incomplete and interpretive. In\naddition\, a research project
is expected to generate precise and wellargued\nreports\, while the journe
y of conducting an inquiry is most\noften anything but simple or straightf
orward. Reflecting on her own\ndoctoral study of ‘digital musicians’\,
Dr. Heidi Partti will discuss\nquestions related to academic writing as a
  learning process\, reflexivity\nabout one’s subjectivity\, and the requ
irement of trustworthiness within\na qualitative research process.\n\nBio:
Dr Heidi Partti (PhD\, MMus\, MA Applied Music Psychology)\nworks as a Po
stdoctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Music\nEducation\, Jazz and Folk M
usic at University of the Arts Helsinki\,\nSibelius Academy\, Finland. Her
research interests revolve around\ncollective creativity\, new media and
different kinds of music-related\nlearning communities. Heidi strives to h
ave an active role as a social\nadvocate in Finland in creating and enabli
ng wider opportunities for\ncreative music making at all levels of educati
on. In addition to her\nwork as a researcher\, Heidi works as a musician a
 nd music teacher.
