DESCRIPTION:Recent developments in assistive technology (AT) have shown po
tential in\nsupporting dementia sufferers through everyday activity. Exist
 ing concepts\ninclude orientation aids\, reminder devices\, communication
supports and\nprompting systems. To ensure that the designs are both usefu
l and\nappropriate\, it is necessary to: (i) identify the problems that ne
ed to be\naddressed\, and (ii) explain these problems in accordance with c
ognitive\ntheory.\n\nThis is the focus of the first study\, which describe
s the problems of\ndementia in the home from the perspectives of professio
nal carers\,\npatients and informal caregivers. The account is also provid
ed in\naccordance with the cognitive models of dementia. The implications
