DESCRIPTION:My research explores the teaching of mathematical topics that 
 intend to prepare students for algebra during elementary school years. Als
 o\, it attempts to illuminate further the relationships\nbetween teachers
 ’ practices\, teachers’ conceptions and the curricular materials.\n\nT
 he study follows a multiple case study research design and data was collec
 ted from interviews\, lesson observations and textbook documents. The part
 icipants were in-service teachers and their classes in the Cypriot educati
 onal context.\n\nIn this presentation\, I will first introduce the study b
 y elaborating on the research questions and the methodology. Then\, I will
  focus on the data from lesson observations and present some preliminary f
 indings of teachers’ practices when engaging students with algebra-relat
 ed topics.
