DESCRIPTION:Today's mighty kings are the centralised core and cloud servic
e providers\, to whom we surrender ever more personal data. This talk sugg
ests that comfortable interaction between devices does not require them to
  become dumb\, remote-controlled terminals to all-powerful providers\, whi
le at the same time reducing the carbon footprint of the Internet. They ad
dress three things\, namely the liberty of not having to disclose every mo
vement to your network provider\; equality for your traffic to be treated
network neutral\; and the comfort of not having to disclose your fraternit
y friends. Used together or separately\, these building blocks provide for
more inherent privacy and will reduce dependence on remote services\, thu
s also enabling their use in disaster recovery.\n\nBio: Marcel Waldvogel r
eceived a Diploma degree and a Ph.D. from ETH Zürich. He is a professor a
t the University of Konstanz and responsible for the University's IT infra
structure. Previously\, he was with Washington University in St. Louis and
IBM Research in Zürich. He likes to solve problems tackling efficiency i
 n networking and distributed systems.\n
