DESCRIPTION:We discuss how we have exploited our insight into the theory o
f strong interactions (QCD) to develop powerful analytical methods that ar
e crucial to obtain precise predictions for high energy collider experimen
ts. Such predictions have in turn been used to firmly establish QCD as the
fundamental theory of strong interactions\, and more generally the standa
rd model of particle physics. Given the current focus on discoveries at th
e large hadron collider (LHC) at CERN and the importance of understanding
QCD therein\, we give particular emphasis to the significant challenges po
sed by the complex LHC physics environment. We argue that these challenges
are being met and demonstrate\, using specific examples\, how our analyti
cal techniques are central to delivering both high precision standard mode
l calculations as well as forging the best possible discovery tools for ne
 w physics at the LHC.
