DESCRIPTION:Recent years have seen the emergence of technology that involv
es\nand requires its users to be engaged through their body. This has open
ed\nthe possibility to better understand and exploit this modality to capt
ure\,\nrespond to and regulate users' affective experience. Indeed\, vario
us\nstudies in psychology have shown that our posture and body movement af
fect\nour emotional state\, our cognitive abilities and our attitude towar
ds the\nenvironment around us. In the first part of my talk\, I will repor
t on our\nstudies aimed at understanding posture\, body movement and touch
behaviour\nas a means for recognizing affective states\, including laught
er\, in\nwhole-body games and in clinical contexts. Then\, through the Dig
ital\nSensoria project\, I’ll discuss how tactile experience can be meas
ured\,\nsupported and communicated to enrich the digital affective communi
cation\nchannels. Finally\, I will report on our studies aimed at investig
ating how\nbody movement qualities can be used to steer the user experienc
e providing\na principled approach to the design of multi-modal affective
 technology.
