DESCRIPTION:Cavity performance can be limited by a transition from superco
 nducting to normal conducting state due to heating of a local hot spot\, c
 alled quenching. Therefore systems used to locate quench area(s) are essen
 tial for achieving higher gradients. Nowadays mainstream cavity diagnostic
 s systems include the temperature mapping system and second sound triangul
 ation using oscillating superleak transducers (OSTs) in superfluid helium.
  This seminar offers an overview on cavity diagnostics\, challenges and de
 velopment in these two systems for the SPL (Superconducting Proton Linac) 
 704 MHz cavities at CERN
