DESCRIPTION:Marilyn Leask is currently Professor of Educational Knowledge
Management at the University of Bedfordshire. \nShe has initiated and mana
ged a number of innovative projects focused on using digital technologies
to support improvements in education. She was a founder member of the Euro
pean SchoolNet in 1995 (www.eun.org). In this seminar Marilyn will introdu
ce new ways of working and publishing\, and opportunities for internationa
l collaboration through MESH—Mapping Educational Specialist knowHow (www
.MESHguides.org)—a worldwide digital publishing and research collaborati
on project. \n\nIn 2009\, the OECD called for the creation of knowledge-ri
ch\, evidence-based systems to empower educational leaders and teachers wi
th the knowledge needed to transform models of schooling. MESH addresses t
his issue. Through collaborations such as Map of Medical Healthguides\, th
e Cochrane Collaboration and the UK National Institute for Health and Clin
ical Excellence (NICE)\, policy into practice has been strengthened in the
medical and health professions. The education sector has the technical ex
pertise and credibility to do the equivalent (Concept to Classroom) throug
h MESH. \n\nMESH is a newly developed ‘translational research’ system
involving educators worldwide in building a quality assured 'wikipedia' o
f professional knowledge for teaching. MESH\, when fully developed\, will
use an innovative knowledge mapping approach to provide MESH Guides which
provide personalised research based advice and just in time learning to su
pport teachers in extending and deepening their professional knowledge. ME
SH provides a system supporting scaling up of small-scale research\, colla
 borative research\, online-publishing and system improvement. \n
