DESCRIPTION:Surface-state electrons on liquid helium\, localised in quantu
m dots\,\nhave been proposed as condensed matter qubits. Several groups ha
ve\nnow demonstrated experimentally that small numbers of electrons\,\ninc
luding a single isolated electron\, can be held in electrostatic\ntraps ab
ove the surface of superfluid helium. A potential well is\ncreated using m
 icrofabricated electrodes in a 3 - 5 mm diameter pool\nof helium. Electron
s are injected into the trap from an electron\nreservoir on a helium micro
channel. They are individually detected\nusing a superconducting single-el
ectron transistor (SET) as an\nelectrometer. Recent results and new device
 s for an electron array\nwill be presented.\n
