DESCRIPTION:Autistic visual experience is often described as "seeing the t
rees\, but not the forest". The roots of this perceptual style are unknow
n\, and previous studies suggest that it cannot be attributed to differenc
es in low-level vision (e.g. acuity\, contrast sensitivity). We aim to ch
aracterize the neurobiology of autistic visual perception by mapping: 1) h
ow the autistic brain integrates elemental visual input into a global repr
esentation over time (coherent motion perception paradigm)\, 2) the distri
bution of attention in space and time in autism (attentional psychophysics
paradigm)\, 3) the neural circuitry supporting the suppression/awareness
of visual input in autism (binocular rivalry paradigm).
