DESCRIPTION:Mathematical modeling of human crowd motion such as high densi
ty pedestrian traffic or the evacuation of\nlarge buildings is a topic of
high practical relevance. The complex behavior of human crowds poses \na s
ignificant challenge in the modeling and a majority of questions still rem
ains open.\n\nIn this talk we present different modeling approaches\, star
ting on the microscopic level and working\nour way up to the appropriate c
ontinuum limits. The resulting macroscopic equations are in general\nnonli
near partial differential equations or systems thereof. We discuss the cha
llenges in their\nanalysis and numerical simulations and illustrate the be
havior of the presented models with computational experiments.
