DESCRIPTION:This talk is concerned with stochastic modelling and analysis
of epidemics\, and focuses on models for which some analytic progress is p
ossible. We discuss current research in this area and outline some open pr
oblems for future work. The first half of the talk\, given by Frank Ball\,
is concerned with the short-term behaviour of emerging epidemics and the
second half\, given by Tom Britton\, is concerned with the long-term behav
 iour of established epidemics.
