DESCRIPTION:Fish have long had a reputation for stupidity (aka goldfish 3
sec memory)\, but work in my lab shows that they are far more intelligent
than we give them credit. This talk will provide a brief overview of the
research in the Behaviour\, Ecology and Evolution of Fishes lab at Macquar
ie University\, much of which is aimed at probing fish cognition. I will p
resent some recent case studies from the lab\, including (but not restrict
ed to): brains and comparative cognition in intertidal gobies\, interactio
ns between invasive cane toads and rainbowfish\, shark social networks and
predator recognition by fish embryos.\n\nFeel free to join me for a fish
 supper afterwards.
