 \nFrank Field is a Labour Party politician who has been the Member of Parl
 iament for Birkenhead since 1979. From 1997 to 1998\, he served as the Min
 ister of Welfare Reform\, before leaving the Government\, following differ
 ences with Prime Minister Tony Blair. He went on to become one of the Labo
 ur Government's most vocal critics from within the party on the backbenche
 s. After Labour's defeat in the 2010 election\, he was given the role of '
 poverty czar' in David Cameron's coalition government. Simon Szreter is Pr
 ofessor in History and Public Policy at Cambridge. He teaches modern Briti
 sh economic and social history since 1700. His main fields of research are
  demographic and social history\, the history of empirical social science 
 and the relationship between history and contemporary public policy issues
 .  Jeff Miley is Lecturer of Political Sociology in the Department of Soci
 ology at Cambridge.  His research interests include nationalism\, language
  politics\, identity politics\, immigration\, religion and politics\, regi
 me types\, and democratic theory.\n\nThe event is free but booking in adva
