 ofessor Danny Quah\, Stefan Halper\, Julie Smith and chaired by Michael Wh
 ite.\n\nAnthony Giddens is a British sociologist who is known for his theo
 ry of structuration and his holistic view of modern societies. He is consi
 dered to be one of the most prominent modern sociologists\, the author of 
 at least 34 books\, published in at least 29 languages\, issuing on averag
 e more than one book every year. In 2007\, Giddens was listed as the fifth
  most-referenced author of books in the humanities. Danny Quah is Professo
 r of Economics and Kuwait Professor at the London School of Economics and 
 Political Science and Tan Chin Tuan Visiting Professor at the National Uni
 versity of Singapore. His research and writing focuses on the shifting glo
 bal economy and the rise of the east. Professor Stefan Halper is the Direc
 tor of American Studies in the Department of Politics and International St
 udies. He lectures on latter 20th Century US foreign policy\, China\, and 
 contemporary international security issues. Professor Halper is a Life Fel
 low at Magdalene College\, Cambridge\, and is Director of Political Milita
 ry Studies at the Center for the National Interest in Washington. Dr Julie
  Smith is a Senior Lecturer in International Relations. She is a Fellow of
  Robinson College\, where she is a Graduate Tutor and Director of Studies 
 in Politics and International Relations.  An expert in European politics\,
  Julie was Head of the European Programme at Chatham House (the Royal Inst
 itute of International Affairs) from 1999 until 2003.\n\nThe event is free
