DESCRIPTION:The role of physicists can be crucial in the oil and gas indus
try\, especially in a world where “easy oil” no longer exist. A number
of aspects of hydrocarbon exploration and production will be discussed in
which physicists play an important role\, specifically in the fields of p
etrophysics and geomechanics. Examples are applications of logging tools t
hat measure natural gamma ray emissions\, neutron absorption\, and formati
 on fracture pressures.
