SUMMARY:Single molecule experiments with nano capillaries and optical twee
zers: the role of electrokinetic flows - Prof. Sandip Ghosal\, Northwester
 n University

DESCRIPTION:Recent advances in single molecule manipulation using nano cap
illaries and optical tweezers\nhave made it possible to apply and measure
pico Newton level forces on molecules with exquisite\nprecision. The inte
rpretation of the experimental data is however not always straightforward.
Some recent\nexperiments performed in the Keyser lab at the Cavendish is
analyzed and it is shown that the physics of\nelectrokinetic flows provid
e a rational basis for the understanding and interpretation of the data.\n
