DESCRIPTION:Bird migration is a phenomenon that has long fascinated scient
ists and observers. Nearly 20% of bird species are migratory\, and twice a
year they cause a significant seasonal redistribution of avian diversity
across the world.\n\nPrevious work has mostly centred on a few species and
/or at narrow spatial scales. For my PhD\, I quantified global patterns of
migratory bird diversity. With this data in hand\, one may then ask the q
uestion: why do some parts of the world have more migrants than others? In
my talk\, I will present my latest results and attempt to bring some answ
 ers to this question.\n
