DESCRIPTION:Between 1940 and 1965\, several anthropologists in Australia w
 orked in Aboriginal communities which they labelled 'mixed race.' I focus 
 on the work of Diane Barwick\, Jeremy Beckett\, Ruth Fink\, Marie Reay and
  Judy Inglis\, examining the interactions which constituted their fieldwor
 k in order to trace changes in anthropological understandings of Aborigina
 l identity.
