DESCRIPTION:Over the last decade or so\, there have been many proposed def
 initions of (∞\, 1)-categories\, but there have also been just as many r
 esults showing that these definitions give rise to the same homotopy theor
 y\,\nand in particular\, the same homotopy category. However\, there is al
 so a slightly finer invariant\, a 2-category first constructed by Joyal an
 d more recently studied by Riehl and Verity\, which captures more of the f
 ormal category theory that one can do with (∞\, 1)-categories. In this t
 alk\, I will recall the construction of this 2-category and explain the se
 nse in which it is theory-independent.
