DESCRIPTION: I will survey some recent progress on how to define natural\n
notions of conformally invariant random metric in two dimensions. This is\
nmotivated by work of physicists in the 70s in the context of\nLiouville q
uantum gravity\, and in particular by the so-called KPZ relation\, which\n
describes a way to relate geometric quantities associated with Euclidean\n
models of statistical physics to their formulation in random geometry.\nI
plan to discuss in an informal manner what the problem is and survey what\
nis known rigorously. While the existence of a conformally invariant rando
m\nmetric is still open\, I will explain a recent result showing that it i
s\npossible to construct a natural notion of Brownian motion in this geome
try\,\nand describe a few of its basic properties.
