DESCRIPTION:The concept of food addiction has gathered a lot of currency i
n both the scientific literature and the lay media. Food addiction seems p
otentially relevant in the context of our modern food environment and the
obesity epidemic and does have a certain intuitive appeal. Similarities in
the clinical picture and the neurobiological findings between certain gro
ups of obese individuals and individuals with substance dependence\, backe
d up by some compelling animal data have taken the food addiction model to
its present state. However is this data really convincing? Do we have eno
ugh to say that a food addiction syndrome really exists? In this talk\, we
will discuss these questions and the implications of getting the answers
 wrong.
