DESCRIPTION:Over the last few years\, we have seen an increasing interest
in wide-area virtual network deployment. To embed virtual networks (VNs) a
cross multiple substrate providers\, network virtualization architectures
need to address the intricacies of inter-domain aspects\, i.e.\, how to pr
ovision VNs with limited control and knowledge of any aspect of the physic
al infrastructure. In this context\, I will present a framework that circu
mvents the difficulty of VN embedding with limited information disclosure
(LID) from substrate network providers. I will further discuss the subopti
mality incurred with VN embedding under LID.\n\nA crucial prerequisite for
network virtualization is virtual routers with a higher level of programm
ability than today’s commercial routers. To this end\, I will present Op
enVRoute\, an architecture that satisfies the requirements for router virt
ualization by combining the advantages of commodity switches and server ha
rdware while mitigating their inherent shortcomings. OpenVRoute employs a
split forwarding plane\, caching high data-rate flows in an OpenFlow switc
h while processing low-volume traffic in a software datapath hosted on a s
erver.\n\nBio: Panagiotis Papadimitriou is an Assistant Professor at the C
ommunications Technology Institute of Leibniz Universität Hannover and a
member of the L3S Research Center in Hannover\, Germany. He is currently v
isiting Arjuna Sathiaseelan to work on the Virtual Public Networks project
funded by the German Academic Exchange Service Professorial Exchange Prog
ramme.\n\nHe received a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from
 Democritus University of Thrace\, Greece\, in 2008. From 2008 to 2010\, Pa
nagiotis was a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Computing Department of Lan
caster University\, UK and at Telecom SudParis\, France. He participated i
 n several EU-funded (e.g.\, 4WARD\,\nSAIL) and national projects (e.g.\, E
PSRC VROUTER\, BMBF G-Lab). Panagiotis received the Best Paper Award at IF
IP WWIC 2012 and the runner-up Poster Award at ACM SIGCOMM 2009. His resea
rch interests include next-generation Internet architectures\, network fun
 ction virtualization\, software-defined networks\, and cloud networking.\n
