DESCRIPTION:This talk will describe how analytical science can be used to 
 confirm the provenance of works of art. \n\nDr. Nicholas Eastaugh is a sci
 entific consultant specialising in the analysis of fine art and other hist
 orical objects. He has a background in physics and is also a graduate of t
 he Courtauld Institute of Art as well as being an honorary fellow of the R
 esearch Laboratory for Archeology and the History of Art\, Oxford Universi
 ty. He has recently set up the Pigmentum Project (see www.pigmentum.org) a
 n interdisciplinary research group studying historical pigments\, as well 
 as publishing two books under the general title The Pigment Compendium (El
 sevier\, 2004).\n\nThis event was jointly organised by the SCI and the Roy
 al Society of Chemistry (RSC) Analytical Division & Mid-Anglia Section.\n\
