DESCRIPTION:I will present some recent work done at the Weizmann Institute
on the development of basic tools for quantum computing with trapped ions
. First\, I will present a simple method we developed to spectrally resolv
e single-spins that are variably coupled to an external oscillating field\
, using a dressing field [1]. We implemented this scheme experimentally on
a linear chain of trapped ions that are separated by 3 microns\, dressed
by a laser field that is resonant with the micromotion sideband of a narro
w optical transition of the strontium atom we are using. Secondly\, I will
present the realization of a very high fidelity entanglement gate of the
 Molmer-Sorensen type using a narrow-line laser in master-slave configurati
on. We performed a full characterization of the MS interaction through qua
 ntum process tomography [2].\n\n[1] N .Navon\, S. Kotler\, N. Akerman\, Y.
