DESCRIPTION:Different cancers hare a number of common characteristics\, mo
st notably cancer cells divide when they should stop\, they fail to mainta
in a mature functional state\, and they move around when they should stay
put.\n\nRapid cell division\, a controlled transition to mature functional
ity and the movement of cells from one place to another are all events tha
t occur during development. We can learn a lot about what goes wrong in c
ancer by studying these normal events in the embryo\, as the genes involve
d in embryonic development are often reactivated in cancer\, as Dr Anna Ph
 ilpott will discuss.
